Fixed number keys, tag autocomplete, and include / exclude filters

Tag actions now apply to every selected image, number keys keep fixed slots, tag input autocompletes, and tag filters can include or exclude each tag in each window separately. Zooming is smoother, images no longer look blurry right after switching, and memory cards with the same name no longer share tags.

3.1.0(17)

Added

  • Added autocomplete to the tag input: matching tags appear as you type, and recommended tags appear before you start typing. Use ↑ / ↓ to choose, Return to confirm, and Esc to close the list; press Esc again to leave the field and go back to the image, so number keys and other shortcuts work right away. Separate names with commas to add several tags at once, and pressing Return while composing text with an input method no longer picks a suggestion.
  • The Tag Health Check in Settings > Tags now lists records on disconnected drives by drive, with the volume name, the number of records, and the date the drive was last opened. You can remove them one drive at a time or all at once, after confirming. After a memory card is formatted in a camera, its old records stay offline forever; now you can clear them here. When a different card with the same name is connected, the list notes that the old one may have been formatted, and removing it doesn’t affect tags on the card that’s connected.

Changed

  • With multiple images selected, every tag action now applies to all of them, just like Pick and Reject: number keys, typing or clicking × in the tag editor, and the thumbnail and main image context menus no longer change only the current image. If any selected image doesn’t have the tag, it’s added to all of them; only when they all have it is it removed from all. Right-clicking outside the selection affects just the image you clicked. Toasts show how many images changed, such as “Added “Landscape” to 5 images”.
  • Quick tags on number keys 1–9 now keep fixed slots instead of being reordered by recent use, so the key you’re used to stays the same. A tag you use for the first time, or one you create in Settings, fills the lowest empty slot. Right-click a tag in the tag editor to choose Assign Number Key or Remove Number Key; picking a key that’s already taken swaps the two tags. Context menus list quick tags by key, and tags without a number key are under Other tags.
  • The tag editor below the main image is now two rows: your tags and the input field, then the number keys. The title row, More tools, the suggested tags row, and the tag library menu are gone. With multiple images selected, it shows the tags of all selected images; tags only some of them have get a dashed outline and a count like “2/5”, and clicking the name adds the tag to all of them.
  • The filter panel now lets you include or exclude each tag on its own: click to include, Option-click to exclude, or use the context menu, so you can filter for combinations like “Portrait but not Outtakes”. When two or more tags are included, switch between Any and All. A tag that no image in the folder uses yet can still be found by searching and excluded, and images you then tag with it are hidden right away.
  • The filter panel is simpler: everything is shown at once, colors are a row of dots that lists only colors used in the current folder, and Keyword is now File Name, which also matches the name of the containing folder. The “Delete all N filtered results” button is gone; press ⌘A to select the filtered images and delete them instead.
  • Tag filters are now separate for each window: filtering in one window no longer affects other windows, and the panel lists only tags from that window’s folder. Saved filter presets are applied from the filter panel, and presets saved before this update are converted automatically with the same conditions.
  • Zooming with a mouse wheel now uses spring animation, so continuous scrolling is smoother and scrolling one notch at a time no longer stops and starts. Trackpad scrolling and pinching feel the same as before.
  • Reworded the interface in English, Chinese, and Japanese to be more direct and to match macOS terms, such as Clear Menu, Appearance, Full Disk Access, and Open from Finder. Smart filters are now consistently called filter presets, the one-time purchase is consistently called Lifetime License, “directory” is now “folder” throughout (such as Previous Folder and Next Folder), Buy Full Version in Settings is now Upgrade to Pro, and the confirmation for deleting a tag is shorter.

Fixed

  • Fixed the image constantly jittering slightly, like dropped frames, while zooming with a mouse wheel.
  • Fixed regular mice without a driver or smooth-scrolling utility barely zooming with the scroll wheel. Each notch now zooms noticeably, and you can adjust the sensitivity in Settings.
  • Fixed the main image looking blurry for a moment before turning sharp when switching images, including when going back to images you’d already viewed.
  • Fixed images subtly sharpening again a moment after they appear. Previews are now sharp enough in full screen or large windows on big displays, such as a 16-inch MacBook Pro or a 4K / 5K display.
  • Fixed blurry thumbnails, especially in the sidebar list layout. Thumbnails cached earlier are regenerated the first time you see them.
  • Fixed images on a second memory card with the same volume name (such as EOS_DIGITAL after formatting in a camera) picking up the first card’s tags and Pick / Reject marks. The two cards no longer affect each other, and the first card’s tags and marks are still there when you insert it again. The tag library is updated automatically, and existing tags and marks stay the same.
  • Fixed the Tag Health Check failing every time, with a failure alert at launch, after you moved a tagged image in Finder and then tagged it again in its new location.
  • Fixed memory cards failing to eject in Finder because they were “in use” after you viewed their images in Picser.
  • Fixed the Delete button in the toolbar deleting only the current image when multiple images were selected. It now deletes all selected images.
  • Fixed a tag filter set in one window also filtering other windows.
  • Fixed the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and community pages opening from Picser in your browser’s language instead of Picser’s interface language.
  • Fixed the Save Preset button icon not showing in the filter panel, a bright edge on the Picser logo in the About Picser window, and several mistranslations. VoiceOver now reads the tag count on thumbnails correctly and announces tags that only some selected images have in the tag editor.

Performance

  • Switching images with the arrow keys no longer lags in folders with 10,000 or more images, including after selecting many or all of them.
  • More of the images you’ve viewed are sharp right away when you go back to them.
  • Full-size images are decoded in the background, so the interface no longer hitches when they replace the preview, and creating thumbnails no longer decodes the original twice.
