Current folder location, Manage Tags…, and a redesigned Tags settings page

The current folder's name now appears after you open a folder; hover or click it to see the full path, copy it, or show it in Finder. You can open tag settings right from the main window, and Settings > Tags now manages tags in a list with multiple selection. Thumbnails scale with the sidebar, and batch-deleting images no longer removes unrelated unused tags.

3.1.1(18)

Added

  • You can now see which folder you’re in. In the list and grid layouts, the folder name appears at the top of the sidebar, to the right of the window buttons; in the filmstrip layout, it appears to the left of Filter by tags. Folders on external drives, memory cards, and network volumes show a matching drive icon. Hold the pointer over the name for about 0.3 seconds to see the full path, laid out like the Finder path bar, such as “EOS_DIGITAL › DCIM › 100CANON”; it hides again when you move away. Click the name to keep the path open, and click it again, press Esc, or click elsewhere to close it. Arrow keys, Space, and other viewing shortcuts keep working while it’s open. Next to the path are Copy Path and Show in Finder, which are also in the name’s context menu. When images from several folders are open, it shows “3 Folders” and lists each folder when expanded. The window title is now the folder name too, so you can tell windows apart in the Window menu and Mission Control, including same-named folders such as 100MSDCF on two memory cards.
  • You can open Settings > Tags right from the main window: Manage Tags… is now below the tag list in the filter panel, in the context menu of tags in the tag editor, and in the Image menu. Before, the only way was to press ⌘, and switch to Tags.

Changed

  • Settings > Tags now manages tags in a list: ⌘-click or ⇧-click to select several, ⌘A to select all, and the context menu and the + − ⋯ buttons below the list act on the selected tags. This replaces Batch mode. Select one tag and press Return to rename it in place, as in Finder, or press ⌫ to delete. A line above the list shows how many tags there are and how many are unused, with Clean Up Unused… next to it. The Tag Health Check is now at the bottom of the page and no longer collapses. The search text and Batch mode are no longer saved, so Settings starts fresh each time instead of reopening on an old search that made tags look missing.
  • To create tags, click + below the list and type at the top of it. Separate names with commas or new lines to create several at once. This replaces the Add Multiple Tags dialog.
  • Renaming a tag to a name that’s already taken now asks whether to merge it into the existing tag, and number keys follow the existing tag. When merging tags, you now pick which selected tag to keep, defaulting to the most used one, or enter a new name. Before, you had to type the target name, and a typo created a new tag.
  • Confirmations for clearing assignments, cleaning up unused tags, and deleting several tags now spell out what happens: whether the tags and number keys stay, and which tags the images lose.
  • Results of actions in Settings > Tags no longer pop up in the main window behind it. Scan results appear only in the Tag Health Check card, and if renaming, merging, deleting, or another action fails, the alert appears in the Settings window. The feedback banner, View History, and the Refresh button are gone; the list updates automatically when tags change in any window.
  • Tag colors are now No Color plus 10 preset colors, and Custom Color is gone. Existing custom colors still show and still work in filters.
  • Drag filter presets in Settings to reorder them, and the filter panel lists them in the same order. Applying a preset no longer moves it to the top. Rename and delete are now in the context menu, and you can select several presets to delete them together.
  • The tag label at the top right of thumbnails now matches the file name label in font size and background, and fits the tag name instead of leaving empty space after it. Additional tags show as “+2”, and tags without a color show as an outlined circle.
  • Thumbnails in the sidebar list and grid now scale with the sidebar width. List thumbnails fill the column and are no longer cropped on the sides when you narrow the sidebar. The grid fits as many columns as it can, and cards grow as you widen the sidebar instead of leaving a gap on the right. Grid file names are now one line, truncated in the middle to keep the extension. When the sidebar is too narrow for “1 selected of 49 results”, it shows “1 / 49”.
  • In the filmstrip layout, Filter by tags and the selection summary are now on one row, leaving more room for the filmstrip.

Fixed

  • Fixed filter presets and each window’s current filters dropping a tag after it was merged into another (including merging after a rename conflict). For example, a preset that included only “Landscape” showed all images after “Landscape” was merged into “Scenery”. These filters now use the kept tag.
  • Fixed batch-deleting images with “Also remove tags no longer in use” checked deleting every unused tag in the library, including tags just created in Settings and not used yet, which also freed their number keys. Now it only deletes tags from those images that no other image uses.
  • Fixed English text showing wrong plurals when the count is 1, such as “1 tags” and “Confirm Deletion of 1 Images”.
