Added
- Added Pick and Reject marks for culling: press P to pick, X to reject, and U to clear, or press the same key again to remove a mark the image already has. With multiple images selected, all of them are marked at once; marks are also available from the Image menu and the thumbnail and main image context menus. Marks are stored in Picser’s local tag library and follow images when they’re moved, and turning on “Preserve Picser tags and marks on copies” keeps them on batch copies (requires Pro; if your entitlement lapses, existing marks stay visible but can’t be changed or filtered).
- Thumbnails now show a Pick (green flag) or Reject (red cross) badge in the top-left corner, and rejected thumbnails are dimmed, consistently across all three thumbnail layouts. A new Pick menu in the toolbar reflects the current image’s mark. A toast confirms each mark, and VoiceOver reads the mark state aloud.
- Added a Pick Filter to the toolbar with All Images, Picks Only, and Hide Rejects. It combines with tag filters and is set separately for each window (requires Pro).
- Added “Move Rejected Images to Trash…” to the Image menu and the Pick Filter menu, with the image count in its title. It covers every rejected image in the current tag filter results, whether or not Hide Rejects is on, and works like batch delete: it asks for confirmation, lets you cancel remaining items and retry failed ones, and moves files to the Trash by default (requires Pro).
- Added a Pick & Reject section to the Keyboard settings that lists the keys and offers “Move to next image after marking” (off by default; applies only when marking a single image; requires Pro).
- Added an animated Picser mark to the welcome screen, the About page in Settings, and the About Picser window. Its dot blinks and looks toward your pointer; in About, it also cycles between the dot, a Pick flag, and a Reject cross, and clicking it skips to the next one. With Reduce motion turned on in macOS, it doesn’t blink or cycle on its own, but clicking still switches it. About Picser in the menu bar now opens a new window, with the tagline “Image viewing. Pure and simple.” under the app name.
Changed
- Picser has a new app icon. It keeps the white single-line P and the blue tones of the previous icon, so you can still spot it in the Dock at a glance. The sun and two layers of waves inside the P’s bowl are now a single ochre-orange dot, like an eye looking toward the next image, a nod to what Picser is for. The P’s stroke is bolder with a shorter stem, and the background is a deeper ink-blue gradient. The old waves blurred together at small sizes; the new icon has just three elements, the background, the P, and the dot, so it stays crisp in the Dock, Finder lists, and other small sizes. On macOS 26, it also picks up the system’s Liquid Glass lighting.
- The Tag Health Check now only checks and never deletes on its own. “Run Scan Now” repairs files that were moved and lists images that can’t be found; their records, tags, and Pick and Reject marks are deleted only after you click “Remove Missing Records…” and confirm. Previously a scan deleted them right away, so if an external or network drive wasn’t connected, the tags on every image on it were wiped. Records on drives that aren’t connected are now listed separately as offline and are never removed.
- When a filter change hides the current image, Picser now moves to the nearest image after it instead of jumping back to the first one. With Hide Rejects on, pressing X repeatedly works through images one by one.
- The message shown when no images match now covers both tag and pick filters, and “Clear all filters” also clears the Pick Filter. Keyboard shortcuts no longer stop working entirely in this state: you can still switch or reopen folders and press Esc.
- The Settings window now resizes to fit the current page, animating smoothly when you switch pages or expand and collapse panels, with no scroll bar when the content fits on screen. Settings also reopens to the page you last viewed.
- The purchase panel now sizes itself to its content as well. “What’s included” now presents four groups of Pro features: Picks & rejects, Tags & smart filters, Crop & export, and EXIF & slideshow, and notes that the yearly subscription and lifetime license unlock exactly the same features. When opened from a specific Pro feature, the matching group is listed first.
- The toolbar Delete button is now red when available. The current-image toolbar buttons are now ordered Tags, Pick, Delete, and on macOS 26 and later, Delete sits in its own group.
Fixed
- Fixed an issue where switching folders with a filter on cleared the restored browsing position and jumped back to the first image.
- Fixed an issue where, with multiple windows open, opening a folder in one window made tags disappear from images in the others. Also fixed tags removed elsewhere still showing after the folder was reloaded.
- Fixed the All Tags tag filter mode quietly loosening: when a selected tag was no longer used by any image in the current folder, it was dropped from the criteria, so “has both A and B” became “has A”. All selected tags are now kept, the results are empty when nothing matches, and the filter panel lists such tags with a count of 0 so you can deselect them.
- Fixed a “Synced tags for N photos” message appearing in every window each time a folder was opened, and the scan result appearing at launch. These background tasks no longer show a message when they succeed, and still do when they fail.
- Fixed long messages at the top of the main window being truncated with an ellipsis. They now wrap to up to three lines, and short messages still use a single line.
- Fixed the Open button being unavailable after selecting a folder in the Open Image/Folder panel, which only allowed choosing image files.
- Fixed menu items for sorting, thumbnail layout, the Pick Filter, and more not showing a checkmark in the menu bar and toolbar. Quick tags and Pick and Reject items in context menus now use native macOS checkmarks too.
- Fixed keyboard shortcuts not appearing in the menu bar. Shortcuts now follow the menu item title, such as “Rotate 90° CCW (⌘[)” and “Pick (P)”, and update when you customize them.
- Fixed the shortcut recorder on macOS 26 and 27 sometimes failing to record keys or showing off-center text. Your saved custom shortcuts are unchanged.
- Fixed feature descriptions in the purchase panel staying in the previous language after switching the interface language while the panel was open.
- Fixed the EXIF panel and some other open views staying in the previous language after switching the interface language. The change now takes effect right away; only some system menus update after you restart the app.
- Fixed visual artifacts when opening or closing the EXIF panel: a vertical line no longer lingers on the main image after the panel closes, and no dark band sweeps across the panel as it opens. A stray divider line on the panel has also been removed.
Performance
- Merging tags now reloads only the images that carry the merged tags. After browsing many images, merging tags no longer ties up the tag library for a long time, so tagging and Pick and Reject marks don’t have to wait in line.
